Unfortunately the workaround of deleting the directory “/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/Http/tv.plex.providers.epg.xmltv/” no longer works either. The only solution is to remove and re-add the tuner every 3 days once the guide data runs out.
Using version 1.17.0.1709-982421575 today, broken again.
The fact that there isn’t any graceful fallback is a big issue also. If you have no guide data? You have the channel list from the M3U, just give me the list of channels at a minimum.

I would like to add my issues here as well. I have been a Schedules Direct subscriber for my WMC for a few years. Today I decided to try the XMLTV from that to replace the built in guide. I kept getting “Unknown Status” after choosing the XML file when trying to rebuild the DVR setup. Thanks to many of you here, I had some tips to troubleshoot with.
I pared the XML down to the minimum - 6 channels for just a few days. That worked. So I started increasing variables to see if anything broke. First thing I did was increase the number of days. I found no issue with 14 days at that number of channels. I added a few more channels and still no problem. I finally added the rest of the channels I wanted and had the problem (227 channels). So then I started decreasing days. I had to go down to 5 days. This gave me a file of 54,237 KB (about 54 MB). 6 days failed and was about 10 MB larger.
I saw another thread about memory leak while loading the XML but I did not get to go back and do any testing on my memory usage during these attempts. I am also wondering if the behavior is different between building the DVR from the XML versus the regular updates of the guide after the DVR is built. I may try increasing the days after the fact and see what happens.
Updated to 1.17.0.1709 and seems a little better on file size although the auto guide refresh is now broken (posted that in separate thread).
After the update, I increased the Schedules Direct download from 5 days to 6 days. The file is now 65 MB (64,935 KB). It loads fine doing a manual refresh of guide data from the DVR management page. I will try some larger files later and report back.,
I’m having similar issues using the latest version. Adding tuners and setting up the EPG always results in An error, the log shows the XML is truncated, and further check seems to indicatie it happens around the 20mb mark. Any work around OR permanent fix would be appriciated. I’m thinking i could write an XML tranformation stripping out unneeded channels, however this seems overkill for a bug in Plex.
