[Bug] iOS app crashes when opening a TV series in a synced library

Hi,

in a TV library that is synced locally, when opening a TV series it crashes every time. I can reproduce it even after reinstalling the Plex client. This is new, it seems to have started two or three days ago.

I can still play individual episodes from the “Recommended” tab, but when I switch to “Library” and open any TV series, the app crashes. Interestingly, this seems to not happen when the series only has one season; any with more than one will crash.

I tried re-downloading the content, I tried re-installing the Plex app, I tried while online and while offline. Same result.
Also: A server library works fine, I can open exactly the same TV series without problems there.

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#: 7.5.1 (on iPad Pro)

I have exactly the same problem. iOS 7.5.1 on iPad Pro, server 1.20.1.3252.

In offline mode, when you select a TV series, the app crashes immediately.

Same issue. iPad Pro MTXQ2LL/A, iOS 14 (happened on 13.7 too) and the latest version of Plex (7.6). Server is 1.20.1.3252. Uninstall/reinstall didn’t do anything to fix it.

A given movie will play just fine off the server, but if I sync it, the client will crash immediately after trying to go into the synced library item. If I try to play a movie from my server that’s synced to the iPad, it will actually say it’s doing a direct play (on this device). Syncing new items works just fine.

Putting the device in airplane mode and trying to play things out of the synced library crashes immediately too.

Hey guys,
experience same.

  • When i am when i am online and choose synced copy, going okay.
  • Some of the offline content play just fine, the other cause crash 1-2 seconds after opening the item, crash

workaround that worked from me:

  • do not open the item, long press the item you want to play, and select play from the menu (you may change subtitles and language, while playing content)

my best guess, while loading local metadata app hits road block which is not able to handle and dies.

server -> 1.20.1.3252 (Synology)
client -> 7.5.1 (iPad, 13.7)

Experiencing the same issue, PMS 1.20.1.3252 and Plex 7.6 on iOS 13.7.

One interesting detail is that not all TV series crash, only the ones synced from a certain playlist.

I too am having this issue, thanks for the work around, hopefully I won’t need to do this for long.

THANK YOU! I’m 2 days away from a family trip with a 3 hour drive each direction. My kids would have gone nuts if they couldn’t watch Frozen & Frozen 2 (which, of all the content I’ve sync’d to my iPad, seem to be the only two that don’t work).

YW :), exactly those 2 items we also had on our trip, thankfully we had more so our kiddo could choose something else, but you can imagine 4 year old girl not getting her Elsa action :D.

Hi, thanks for the reports and sorry for the issue accessing your synced content. We’ve prepared a fix that will be in the next beta and release of Plex for iOS.

If any of you aren’t on the TestFlight beta, but would like to be to help confirm this issue is fixed please send me a private message, otherwise you can look forward to a fix shortly! Sorry again for the issue.

workaround that worked from me:

  • do not open the item, long press the item you want to play, and select play from the menu (you may change subtitles and language, while playing content)

Unfortunately, my app crashes when I try to open the series or the season. I can’t even get to the episodes.

'any update on this issue? it happens for music as well.

Thanks,

Richard

The release notes for version 7.7 (note app reports v7.8) on iOS says this is fixed, but it didn’t fix it for me. After reinstalling the app I can no longer sync at all, so looks like something is very broken. Older version on iPad still working fine. Server version 1.20.2.3402.

Same problem for me, the work around of press and hold does work. Looking forward to a fix.
