[BUG] No Audio on Certain File Types with tvOS 15 (beta) and Plex AppleTV (beta)

Remember, this thread is for informing, not requesting help. Utilizing beta or test software is at your own risk, so any expectation that it’s a priority over production-level releases is not realistic.

If you read the EULA of the developer agreement, it states not to use any primary devices for testing and to only install beta software on test devices.

If you’re not comfortable with potential bugs or issues with your workflow or experience, don’t install beta software.

We know, but one would think that Plex might like to hear about these things before they become bugs in GA software, right?

Same here the below units are all on Beta 15

2 x Latest ATV 4K
1 x Old ATV 4K
2 x ATV 4 HD

Mix of HT Receivers and TV Speakers, I get no sound with Live TV or any Video file I have tested, switching to the old player or forcing a transcode fixes the Audio issue.

I dont think it has anything to do with E-AC3, as live TV for me also has no sound, some channels are mpeg2 audio and others are AC3.

Sound won’t play via direct play for me also.

Apple TV 4K (2021 Model)
tvOS 15 Beta 3
Plex ATV app 7.20 (422)

It works when I set “Use Old Video Player” in the Plex app settings though.

FYI - I am actually a developer, so don’t complain that I’m a noob who shouldn’t upgrade to beta software.

I’m on ATV 4K and just upgraded to tvOS beta 15. Damn, I wish I would’ve done my research before upgrading because I can’t downgrade back. Still having the same issue as reported above. Haven’t tried transcoding because I’d prefer to direct play. :sigh:

This issue has been resolved in the beta TestFlight version 7.22 (847) released last week.

It… was not?

Are you using the Plex beta TestFlight version 7.22 (847)?

So this is weird. I said that because I had updated, it appeared to work for a few days then suddenly stopped working.

I’ve updated again and it’s working again so unsure what happened. Maybe App Store overwrote the TestFlight version?

Either way… working right now ta.

If you hit the download arrow in the App Store, it will overwrite a TestFlight version. I’ve done that to myself before.

In iOS 15 b5 Apple added a nice indicator to the App Store for software that’s using a TestFlight version.

Damn, no room in the beta :frowning:
