[Bug] Playback error, conversion failed, transcoder error while watching anything with subtitles on

Server Version : 1.32.5.7349-8f4248874
App Name: Plex for LG
LG Smart TV Model: 50UP75006LF
Player Version (Client) : 5.65.2
Player Version (Platform) : 6.3.2
Plex Pass: No

Hello,
I have a local plex server installed on Debian Bullseye on a computer/server here in my flat.
Everything works perflectly except when I try to watch something with subtitles ON on my LG Smart TV.

When I do so, I can’t watch more than a few seconds before having a “Playback Error. Conversion Failed. The transcoder exited due to an error”.

In the Web UI, the console shows those errors:

  • [Req#175a] Unable to find client profile for device; platform=webOS, platformVersion=6.3.2, device=webOS 6.3.2, model=50UP75006LF.
  • Session 0x7f08e84a7618 terminated.
  • [TranscodeOutputStream] Session appears to have died from us.

This happens ONLY when I watch from smartTV, I can watch the same movie with subtitles ON on the chrome web ui, the Windows Plex application, no problem, I have this “Playback Error” only on the LG SmartTV Web OS.

The problem happens with ALL types of subtitles: french, french forced (even when there’s NO subtitles for the whole movie), PGS, SRT…
I don’t think the audio and video codec are in cause because the issue happens with a lot of files with different codecs, the only thing in common is “Are the subtitles on ?”

I browsed the web to find a solution and tried at least 10 different solutions.

  • Plex transcode directory is the default one (in /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/Transcode).
  • There’s at least 200Go available for that directory
  • It is owned by the plex user and group, with these permissions (rwxr-xr-x)
  • I don’t own a Plex Pass, so I can’t check on or off the hardware acceleration for the transcoder (I guess it’s off by default when you don’t have a Plex Pass ?)
  • My graphics card drivers are up to date anyway (Nvidia GT 520)
  • I monitored my server ressources during the issue, to see if the CPU (AMD FX 8350) was struggling, but it doesn’t even use 10% while watching a 4K movie.
  • Same for the RAM and the SWAP, no ressources are overused.
  • Plex media server is installed on a sata SSD (mounted as /) and the movies are loaded on a RAID 0 array of two HDD. The SMART status of all these devices is perfectly fine.
  • I tried creating a virtualdisk from the ram and use it for the transcoder instead of the default location.
  • I tried changing the transcoder configuration (from automatic to “hurt my CPU” etc)
  • I tried disabling the transcoder completely.

None of these solutions fixed the issue.
I don’t know what else to do to try and fix this…

Could anyone let me know what’s causing the issue and how to fix it ?
Please let me know I you need any more information to help.

Best regards,
Dkeagle1911.
