Hello,
I try use Plex client only with my home network via ethernet (no wifi). I setup my both smart TV’s on “direct play” with “original” video quality. I want plaback videos HD and 4K with HDR and Dolby Atmos with highest AV quality as pass thru without any transcoding on the NAS.
Burn Subtitles set “automatic”, MAX level of h.264 set “recomended”
Error discription:
When I playback content with burned PGS subtitles or without it, videos play smooth. But when I set external SRT files (TXT container with UTF-8) Plex clients on the LG and SONY Smart TV’s don’t want playback this same files, showing messages:
SONY X90J - “Error was acurred trying playback this movie. Check your connections and try again”
LG TV - “Conversion failed. The transcoder exit due to an error”
I don’t understand what kind of conversions Smart TV are trying do, since I setup “direct play” on it.
I even purshased monthly subsciptions of Plex Pass, counting on hardware acceleration option on Plex Server, but this didn’t help as well.
What I noticed, that sometimes when I set AC3 5.1 audio track instead TRUEHD 7.1 with Dolby Atmos the movie start playing, but not allways that help. I also trying set Burn Subtitles on “always” and “only images format”.
Can anybody explain me why external SRT subtitles, are blocking playback?
In the Plex for LG app, there is an option to send logging to your server. Please enable that, playback the file again to reproduce the error, wait 30s for the logging to complete, then grab the server logs and send them to me. Make sure your server is set to “debug” logging before doing this.
For the Sony TV, it runs our Android app, so reproduce the error, then get the android logs directly from the TV. Grab the server logs separately and provide both of these together.
i’ve set burn subtitles to ‘never’ but when playing files that need transcode for some reason like DTSHD-MA ones, in the past I could transcode and still keep the subtitles with the apprender now for some reason when the file transcodes the subtitles will appear burned in and i’m getting the same playback error after a few seconds of playback… seriously guys, what’s so difficulty to find what changed before 5.44.3 version when this bug start happening? Why not roll back to the old fw to fix those issues for smart tv users?
Edit: If you guys want I can provide logs, but plenty of people did that already what I can say is that i’s a really random error, just yesterday I’ve watch a video when the subtitle disappeared for the first time at the mark of 37’’ a bit l8r I’ve watched another video the subtitle disappeared ~14’’ and then a couple more times (4x) until the end of the video.
Another odd behaviour, when playing files with a longer duration like movies, this tend to happen ONLY by the final 10/15 minutes of the video but it will happen a couple of times (3/4x) during those final minutes…
My conclusion… I can’t figure out why this is so random…prolly something wrong with how apprender handle the subtitle?
Another interesting note, internal SRTs will work perfectly fine, even with apprender…so maybe something with how the apprender “connects” with the external subtitle?
