I am having the same problem. AAC-HE is broken and I have to transcode it to AAC, which seems a waste of resources.

I thought I had similar issue until I figured out the actual mp4 i downloaded contained some blank data streams. So it had Steam 0 video, stream 1 audio HE-AAC, and then there’s stream 3 and 4 data but no data. So I ended up reencoding all those files and stripped those data with ffmpeg.

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -map 0 -map -0:d output.mp4

These data streams did not show up in the xml in plex. Only when I did mediainfo or ffmpeg -i input.mp4

Add myself to!! Sorry @DaveBinM!! I’ve upgraded to the latest Beta version after having the issue of Plex on Android playback issues like others, but it’s now fixed that, but only by going to Transcode, seems not just HE-AAC audio either??

I’m having issues still with Player not playing certain MPEG4 files on the phone over Local WiFi and Remote WiFi but on 4G/Cell works a treat!! Not sure is rhis a Transcode issue or something else??

I can confirm the issue, and also would like to point out that this isn’t restricted to Android devices.

I just found this thread because of the same issue/symptoms on an Apple TV 4k trying to watch a video with HE-AAC audio.

Changing/transcoding audio stream to “(English EAC 5.1)” allowed the video play correctly.

Confirming the same issue here. Fire TV stick 4K

Plex web plays the video fine.

This might just be an MKV demuxing bug? I put a show that is having this problem through the Optimizer (Optimize for TV) which converts to MP4 and now the HE-AAC is playing just fine on my Android Smart TV.

Just because things aren’t in a public release yet, doesn’t mean they’re not being worked on and investigated

This issue dates back to 2018. Has there been any update?
