Funny you said this I think plex currently behaves like that now…
More than one I copied files inti the wrong folder TV show and it was matched based on the TV show name not based on the file name.
So it is exactly like you said Knight Rider S01E01.MKV would look free be matched as The Office if it were copied into The Office among other The Office file names.
This happens a while ago
That can happen if you add a bunch of files at the same time in the same folder. Plex will look at a folder and look to see if most of the files are named the same. In case there is a typo in the names.
So if you add 9 files named “The Office” and 1 file named “Knight Rider”, it could end up with 10 episodes matched to The Office. Even if you name the folder “Knight Rider” it should still come out as The Office.
If you add just 1 file named “Knight Rider” in a folder called “The Office”, it should match to “Knight Rider”.
Yup I noticed the same. That’s actually smart feature of plex that made me moved from kodi. Kodi has simpler and stricter matching rules.plex is more flexible thus appear smarter at matching
Here is another proof of the bug.
tv/Happy Together (2018)/Happy.Together.2018.S01E01.mkv …etc
All episodes are matched as Happy together 1999 because PLEX scoring matches that naming above as happy together 1999 with highest score
Similar situation is happening with the DVR functionality.
Looks like the first episode of a series recording goes into
Series name (year)
BUT the second+ recordings go into just
Series name
which makes no sense at all!!!
