Does it help to completely block Plex from contacting the last.fm domain? Or does Plex then still refuse to read the tags?
Plex indeed is often surprisingly stubborn in refusing to use tag data. Genre and Year also frequently don’t get read, although this might have something to do with Plex’s odd use of Genre as only an album-based property.
Off topic: another problem is the excessive disk space used by album cover caching - there really should be a way to set a max to this, I am not happy with 30+ GB of bloat on my SSD system partition. I understand that Plex started out as a movie library and people don’t have 15.000 movies, but such numbers are very easily reached with music albums.
I’ve recently started using Plex again after getting a smart tv. Like many I take great care with id3 tags and this is just annoying. I use Puddletag in Kubuntu, so I checked the tags in Mp3tag in Windows, and discovered that Plex is lifting the info from Albumartist tag. A number of tracks had either various artists or other names and some tracks had nothing in albumartist.
Puddletag as far as I know doesn’t display this particular tag. After testing a number of tag editors I chose EasyTAG. This corrected the problem. I simply deleted all data in Albumartist tag.
I still had an issue with Plex not selecting either the embedded picture or selecting the folder.jpg. I had to manually add this to the album cover but it seems to work.
Hope this helps.
