Hello,
I did add my music libary to plex and plex refuses to use the embedded album cover.
What plex sees
I think Plex uses the images from your folder when you have arranged the media according to the recommended setting. At least that has been my experience with music and all other media.
I have only a single folder with all music in it and use the embedded tags for sortings.
So plex ignores the embedded album cover no matter what and instead shows nothing? That is pretty unique behaiviour, I’m not aware of a other single player doing that.
Thanks for help but if that is the only solution I drop plex for music and use something else, creating folders for 1000+ music tracks is not feasible to do in a timely manner. Installing a other player on the other hand takes less than a minute.
If somebody knows a solution with a plugin or so I still look for that and I would be willing to give plex a second chance.
You could always use a media tagged to do it for you if your music is properly tagged. E.g. mediamonkey can do it and it can tag using musicbrainz which I believe is the primary engine for Plex’s own online tagging. Media Brains has its own tagger, Picard. It can tag and organize as well.
Seems like they implemented it in 1.23.3.4692 because my libary shows covers now. Sadly they don’t have a option to ignore album artist and use instead the embeded artists, a remix on soundcloud is standalone and not released in a album, so there is no album artist or album name in the tags which confuses the hell still out of the scanner and i end up with many many songs only displaying various artist and still ending up editing tags in plex manually but atleast the covers work now which lifts plex from unusable to still annoying for music.
Regarding filestructure that does not cause problems anymore since they added support for that in 1.23.3.4692 so getting lots of problems caused by that is a thing of the past.
Makes no difference I have two folder and libarys to do a to b testing and it ends up even with that stupid folderstructure in various artists, actually the sorting is worse with that folders stuff because albums like UKF Dubstep 2011 have many artists so i get a lot more files with various artists compared to the everything in one folder and than take the embedded tags approach.
Nested file structure (doesn’t matter where your music is stored locally. Only that Plex is pointed to it.)
MUSIC folder
ARTIST folder
ALBUM NAME folder
songs.mp3
folder.jpg (album cover art)
My Plex preferences:
Scanner: Plex Music Scanner
Agent: Personal Media Artists
Prefer local metadata is checked
Genres: Embedded Tags
Album Art: Local Files Only
I’ve noticed the posted photo looks like MP3Tag, which I use, and I see the field “Album Artist” is blank. This MAY a reason you aren’t getting your covers as “Artist” and “Album Artist” must match exactly. Otherwise, it freaks Plex out. At least it did for me.
Yes Album Artist is needed or it freaks plex out i wrote that above, but that is a plex quirk and i hope they get sorted this out in one of the next updates.
folder structure on the other hand is not needed anymore, putting all music files in one folder works if your stuff is tagged correctly
Agreed. Although I do have the most recent versions of both the Plex Web app and the Roku app (all media stored on my WD MyCloud NAS) and am not having your issue. I have another one that developed about 4 months ago, first my Roku app and just last month, my Plex Web app developed it, too. Had a trusted pro check my system for viruses and malware/spyware, and I’m clean so that’s not it. Come to think of it, though, I didn’t have these issues before I went to Windows 10 Pro in December last year.
maybe it got lost in the thread but I don’t have a issue anymore with [Implemented] Support flat folder structure for music that is fixed for me. I only miss the feature to use the embedded “artist” tag instead of the embedded “album artist” tag. I don’t see why a Song that got not released on a album should have a album and a album artist in the tags, but that is a design choice by plex and since they work on that stuff currently my hope is that they see too that there are cases in which this tags will not be there.
