[BUG] Plexamp Desktop Clicking on the artist (or album) name does not open the artist screen

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10156
Player Version#: PlexAmp v4.12.4

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open PlexAmp app

  2. Start playing a track

  3. Click on the artist name (or album name)

Expected behavior:

Current behavior:

  • The same drawer as pressing on “…” icon is opened, with “Go to album”, “Go to artist”, …, and other buttons. So I need 2x clicks to get where I need.

This hurts the UX as it increases required clicks by 200%. This UX is different from playing music via https://app.plex.tv/desktop, where, upon a click to artist/album I get to the expected page within 1 click. Other players, like Spotify, have this behavior consistent with https://app.plex.tv/desktop.

Not all screens are on the large side.
Not all fingers are pencil-thin.
Meaning this is intentional.

@OttoKerner , please don’t call UX inconsistencies across Plex apps “intentional”.

I understand that PlexAmp headless/mobile/desktop is literally the same React Native codebase, but it’s lacking mouse-hover events - e.g., highlighting tracks on mouse hover, underlining artist/album names, etc. And it is distracting.

@OttoKerner please stop moving this from Desktop Players to “labs”. The website clearly states it’s a top-level product now - https://www.plex.tv/plexamp/

I am moving this thread where it belongs and where there are the best chances that a developers is going to see it.

Here are some more distracting UX inconsistencies:

  • start playing a track
  • click on an album
    • Expected: go to an album
    • Actual: see the drawer and have to click again
  • click on an album
  • click on an artist name
    • Expected: wait, should i see drawer again?
    • Actual: go to an artist (as expected, actually)
  • click on an album
  • start playing a track from that album

P.S. @OttoKerner , the argument about pencil-thin fingers doesn’t hold up to scrutiny

This is one of my bigger annoyances with Plexamp (while Plex desktop standard is super easy to zip around)

yep, literally all other players are doing it in the same way - Plex Desktop, Spotify, Tidal, Rockbox, etc. It’s a shame that moderators brush it off as “pencil thin fingers”, which is completely irrelevant.
