Use plexamp. Open any album with a compilation of artists. Press on the currently playing track text to slide up the modal menu. Pick “Go To Artist” from the menu.
BUG: This will launch a search for ALL VARIOUS ARTISTS discs which seems to cause a hang (I have thousands).
Expected behavior:
On a Various Artist album - - I set the Album Artist to the string “Various Artists” in the ID3 tag, but I presume the parsing agent you do with musicbrainz has a similar flag. In iTunes there is a Compilation flag (checkbox).
For these albums, the “Go To Artist” should go to the track Artist page so that I may see what other discs are available.
For All other albums, the current “Go To Artist” goes to Album Artist is probably fine, as many of my files have semicolon multiple artists in the Artist field.
