fixed it for me. Thanks
Makes me wonder how plex hasn’t updated the app’s dependencies 2 months after 24h2 came out, the last update was only 2 weeks ago too.

Does anyone know the version of MPV that Plex’s DLL is from? I’m hoping it’s at least newer than the version with a security vulnerability.
Just wanted to say this worked for me as well. No need for installing other codec packs, apps or whatever suggested in the thread. Replacing the mpv-2.dll in the C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex folder fixed it.
After reinstalling Windows 24H2 from scratch, EAC3 suddenly wouldn’t play. This fixed it completely ![]()
Can confirm that this works,
Likely as the poster mentioned that it is an old version of the dll.
Running windows 11 24H2.
Hope official updates soon but this workround will work.
it just works, the best solution so far, been using plex from my browser and its annoying
Works for me too. Plex devs if you read this, which you wont but hey I like to vent, maybe you should stop sucking on that ad rev tit for all your free crap and start putting some effort in to getting your app to work? I dunno just a thought.
This WORKED. Thanks so much. I had installed so many codec packs, all not working. The suggested mpv-2.dll swap was not working for me either.
It worked for me ! Thank you ![]()
Worked for me on a W11 24H2 brand new install
Thanks for the fix, worked for me! Kinda crazy this hasn’t been fixed yet
Will this solution also work for Windows 10? Plex HTPC will not play audio from AAC-encoded files… it’s not my hardware as the audio from the very same files plays fine in other media players (such as VLC). It just stopped at one point and I don’t know if it was an update to Plex or Windows.
Great - update v.1.107.1.293-575aed08 just screwed the mpv-2.dll work around.
Plex player from a browser still works.
Yes, stop replacing the mvp-2.dll file and install the proper codec :
This is a permanent solution and you won’t need to replace anything in the future.
Seeing that plex doesn’t care about this issue i will mark this post as the solution to the problem for future people coming here.
I’ve lost hope and I think they will never fix it.
Thanks for confirming this - seen a few references of this around but wasn’t sure about installing it. And yes - this works!
this worked! thank you!!!
Solutions provided not working, last version of plex 1.107.2.300-7093f413 for windows on windows 24h2
Thank you!! Worked like a charm!
Still an issue in Feb 2025. I replaced the libmpv-2.dll file with a newer one.
This issue can be easily fixed by the user by installing external codecs themselves.
However, it is a different matter for the PLEX team to ignore this: they have not made even a single comment about such an issue that affects users extensively. Not a single one, out of nearly 100 comments.
I can understand that updates are delayed for technical reasons, but I don’t understand this attitude on their part.
I wanna add that this problem is not only on 24H2. In November i switched to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 21H2. This was from the most recent official iso at the time. AC-3 was nowhere to be found and both PLEX and PLEX HTPC was muted when playing AC-3 content. After installing the AC-3 codec file from MajorGeeks its been working fine for weeks now.
