I was looking through my movie list, and noticed a slightly improper title sorting problem. Under english title sorting rules, a leading “A”, “An”, “The” is ignored. However, plex does not seem to honor this rule. I have a title list that goes like this:
.
.
.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Terminator: Genisys
The Fantastic Four
The Pink Panther
Thor
Thor: The Dark World
.
.
.
I am on version 3.23.1 running under a docker container on a Plex server.
Just wanted to report this and see if it would get fixed sometime. Or perhaps give us an option to ignore leading articles or not??

That’s exactly what is being done by default.
Curious that it doesn’t work for you.
How do you access your “movie list”?
Do you use the default Plex client in the web browser? Or something else? If so, what?
‘Edit’ one of the movies where the title starts with A or The
What is in the input field ‘Sorting Title’?
I so hate it when I ask stupid questions that I should know the answer to. I’ve seen that “Sort Title” box before, but it never registered into my brain, hence the stupid question. Thanks for the pointer to allow me to fix my stuff.
Sometimes, but rarely, Plex sticks the “The” in the sort title field. I’ve noticed it with the old movie “The Devil Bat” and a few others.
I have noticed that the number of screw ups of that sort have decreased in later installs but it still happens from time to time.
I’ve just dug through the Server Advanced settings through the web interface - I would have sworn previously there was a tick box option somewhere to enable/disable including such ‘article’ words from the sort order, but now it’s not there.
Mind playing tricks on me.
