[Bug] Search Only Matches Track Artist on Exact Match

I was originally planning on filing a completely different bug report, but the behavior seems to have changed between yesterday and today so I’m including both issues here.

Previously (Oct 26, 2023):

I attempted to search for the track Hallelujah performed by Rufus Wainwright by searching “rufus”, but the search results only showed the following:

By specifically searching for “Hallelujah” I was able to find the track.

Currently (Oct 27, 2023):

I went to gather screenshots for the bug report this morning and found that the behavior has now changed; searching “rufus” no longer shows any tracks by that particular artist (it’s probably worth mentioning that all tracks with the artist “Rufus Wainwright” in my library are part of compilation albums that contain multiple artists). So the current result when searching “rufus” looks like this:

Searching “rufus wainwright” in it’s entirety, however, will show the expected tracks:

This behavior seems to be affecting all tracks in my library where the track artist does not match the album artist:

I’m not really sure why the behavior has changed between yesterday and today, but something is definitely not working as expected.

Any time your database is optimized (scheduled or not) the search index is rebuilt, that may account for the changes you’re seeing.

I see the behavior here where it will only match tracks via track artist if it’s an exact match; I assume that would be server-driven behavior, but after having a peek, I’m not sure exactly why it’s behaving like that :sweat_smile:

That’s definitely possible, I do have Optimize database every week enabled, and may have even triggered it manually.

For what it’s worth, I just did the following:

  1. Added some more media
  2. Manually triggered a library scan
  3. Manually triggered database optimization

As of a few moments ago, partial matches are working as expected:

Quick Update: I had this same issue occur again a few days ago, but it seemed to have resolved itself by the next day.
