I run Plex on all my devices, 2 pc desktops, 1 mac, 2 pc laptops, multiple phones.
I only experience this problem with one desktop which is connected to a projector and Denon Amplifier sound system.
I have had this problem for the last several updates. I also got a my new Denon Amplifier, but I’m not sure if this issue is related because I can’t remember exactly when it started, and since all other sounds on this computer works fine.
Problem:
When I begin playing a video, the sound is initially started, but after 1-2 seconds, it stops.
This only occurs if I am using the Plex for Windows APP. The plex web player and other programs on my computer do not have any sound problems.
I have noticed in the Settings>Plex for widows>Player, that the audio device is set to “Auto select device”. If I change it to the correct sound output “4 - Denon-AVAMP (AMD High Definition Audio Device)” then “Save changes”, then start a video, the sound works again but then immediately shuts off and the setting reverts to “Auto select Device”.
How is the laptop connected to the Denon AV reciever, HDMI?
If HDMI, what Channels and Passthrough options are you using? Have you attempted to change them?
Its a desktop, connected via HDMI to Denon Receiver.
Audio was set to HDMI
Audio Channels was set to 5.1 and no passthroughs were selected.
I changed to AUTO audio channels and enabled passthrough for everything…seems to have worked in the few tests I just did.
Awesome thanks for the suggestion. Will post back if it fails again, but for now seems like either the change to 5.1 to Auto, or enabling passthrough did the trick!
So have testing this out for a while and it is still failing.
When starting to play, there is sound, but after 2 seconds there is a pause and a sound blip. Sometimes the sound shuts off. Sometimes it continues. The way I fix it is to go into player settings and manually change the sound to my Denon receiver and click save. Sometimes it works and sometimes I have to restart Plex and do the whole thing again.
This is very frustrating and it only occurs with Plex (no other software on this computer has this issue). And it only happens on this one computer.
