Just wondering if anyone has experience of building a server dedicated purely for PMS?
I currently have a syno NAS 8 bay which is great and serves media perfectly where it can be direct played, but I’d like to have the flexibility to also transcode (future proofing).
My key reqs:
- Only needs to run PMS (and ay required OS to achieve this)
- Doesn’t need any other storage
- Small footprint (mac mini type size)
- Not power hungry when it isn’t being used so doesn’t eat electricity
- Wakes up quickly when a Plex app is used
- Can transcode up to 3 1080p high bit rate MKV rips including VC1 MKVs (thinking of apps that don’t have the VC1 codec and if I want to make use of embedded subtitles in the MKVs)
A NAS meets all these except the last point!!!
