HI guys!
I wanted to ask some questions in terms of build my own PMS. I currently have about 5tb in HDD used for Plex running my desktop Gaming PC. However in order to utilise it myself and for my family I have to leave it on continously. My PC is build with quite good specs from 3 years ago however i never really looked at power consumption.
Now I am considering using spare parts I have lying around to build a smaller Plex only server. the purpose would be to run plex and when needed to able to remotely wake up my gaming pc in case I would have to access it. My question is Firstly, would I be able to really save on power consumption if I build a minimalistic plex server to be on 24/7 if it means my gaming pc goes from 24/7 to maybe 3-4 hours a day on.
And if yes what things matter most for building this plex server? should i put an GPU i have lying around in or is that just extra consumption? does OS matter? what kind of specs should I want if i got 3-4 users max streaming at the same time on 1080p? (only got 1 4k device that isnt used that often)
