To avoid trial and error, I have a few questions about obtaining/confirming the best possible speeds for my setup and usage…here is my environment:
This is be a standalone Linux server for Plex. It will only be used for 1080p movies and TV shows. Highest quality source video is 1080p, as I have no 4k yet. DVR and music functions will not be used.
The server cpu is extremely powerful, and has 32GB of RAM using Centos 8. The OS is using an m.2 SSD, I have a QNAP TS-453 where all media is stored. The server will be on a fibre gigabit link. I expect to have approximately 15 users at peak times.
So here are my questions…
I will be transcoding to RAM, so 16 of 32GB of RAM will be used for this. Will that be sufficient for the amount of users I have? Should I adjust it to use more?
The mobo has dual NIC, so is it best to connect the QNAP nas directly into the mobo alongside the fibre link or leave it connected to the router?
