Bulk editing metadata

I’ve noticed that while most of my music library is sorted by “artist name: last, first”, some of the files are sorted “first last”. I can easily edit each individual album to fix that, but that will mean individually editing over a hundred files. Is there any way to do this task in bulk?

Thanks in advance.

You can multi-select items and then edit all of them in one go.

That being said… have you considered simply editing the artist record (instead of each individual album)?

Actually, yes; I started to do just that, and as you say, it worked well. I was just hoping that there would be an option somewhere to automate the task - a way to tell the library to always sort individual artists by their last names, and sort groups by title. Unfortunately it seems I’ll have to do it manually. Until you pointed it out, I actually didn’t know about the little circle in the upper-left corner of the artwork that lets one select multiples. Thanks for that. Not like it’s the apocalypse or anything; just a bit of a slog…

Plex considers the artist name just as a title — not the name of a natural person with first/last name. Based on that, there’s no means to pin down those artists and sort them by their last names.

For mass updates consider editing the files with a tool like mp3tag. It can use regular expressions to do any kind of text manipulation you can imagine, though it is a lot to learn at first.

That’s a really good idea. Thanks!

Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks
