It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to plex. You were once the greatest media tool ever created. Like a bright star in the sky for anyone whom wanted to share media files across a home network or even across the internet. But unfortunately you have added so much junk that that star has gone super nova and now is a giant black hole that just sucks all of its greatness away. Every update the server gets worse and worse, so I have for the first time in 4 or 5 years canceled my plex pass and am moving on. I can only hope that you realize that people want a light weight tool to stream media and not all of this junk you keep adding.
It was great while it lasted, but as all companies you just donāt know when to quit.
Sad to see you leave the Plex community. I read your post but other than āthe server gets worse and worseā, I am not really seeing what is so horrible here? What is the Server doing nowā¦can you no longer share your mediaā¦can you no longer view your media on different devices?
I am also a Plex Pass userā¦I came to Plex about 6 months after it launched. I use Plex like most other people (I assume). Just trying to understand what the issue is; maybe I am experiencing it too and just do not realize it.
I share with about 25 people (and about 25 people share with me) and I have not noticed any issues. I can watch remote, so can my users. No issues reported.
Let me know what the issue are if you can; Iād like to understand them.
I agree that they are adding way more than I need or even give a damn about. But the core concept of Plex still works fine so I donāt really care.
Exceptā¦
How they try to push those horrible āfreeā movies down our throat. When I used to invite people to my server it would be (relatively) quick and easy process and they would see my media immediately. Now? Now they are met with some of the worst movies ever published thinking that they are what I put up on the server.
I invited my grandma not long ago and that time my content was even hidden behind a āmoreā button.
Not a big problem when you take a step back but the way it has been handled sure looks nasty and if youāre already on the brink of leaving Plex for something else then I have no problem seeing how that is the last straw.
I get all frustrated just thinking about those movies⦠What on earth do they actually generate thatās positive for plex?
With all that negativity out of my way; Plex is awesome!
I get this, but itās also to important that those movies have nothing to do with your server. If someone created an account and had no server, they would have access to them.
There are some pretty good movies in there. Iāve watched a few and there are a few more I need to get around to watching. Itās adding another source of media for individuals. Donāt like it, turn it off.
People complain about the TIDAL integration all of the time. Itās an AWESOME feature to me. However, the ones complaining about it are the ones that donāt use it. And again, they can turn it off.
I have to agree that these new features (Tidal, junk cable movies, web series, etc) are un-interesting and annoying. There are 50 other services on Roku, FireTV, etc that offer the same movies. I want Plex to be my media.
Iām not at the point where I will ditch Plex because thereās no suitable alternative. But thatās not going to be the case forever.
You have missed the point for Plex Inc adding features, it may not be your prerequisites but there are enough people that want these features. Itās like new cars, did you want 4 Drink holders in third row of seats. Probably not but there are people that do.
I agree with both sides of the argument. Some people want the 4 cup holders and some want just 2. Some want the reclining seats on the Driver and Passenger side.
JMHO - if they want to ADD this stuff, some of us like it, some of us hate it. There should be a TOGGLE to DISABLE IT. Not FORCE us to have it. OPTIONS, OPTIONS, OPTIONS.
It is like the packaged options when buying a NEW CAR. You want one feature, but in order to get it - you have to have the 13 others you will never use. : LOL :
That toggle exists. Itās been widely discussed in numerous threads (mostly opt-in vs. opt-out).
Server admin can decide which online media sources are available to their managed users. All users with their own accounts can enable/disable the online media sources as they like it (or not).
Stuff myself and users donāt want.
Plex movies & tv
Online web news
Podcasts etcā¦
Default Plex install is terrible? This as far as Iām concerned should be hidden by default. I have to walk my users through removing it. Plex is suppose to be about our own personal content. Not saying thereās anything wrong with some of this, but it should be shutoff by default. If we wanted movies and tv we would have signed up for a streaming service.
We never talked about it, I just did it, knowing thatās what he wanted.
I get a text later:
Where did those shows with the ads go?
Debbie was watching one.
Well⦠an hour later we got that back on for him - and the moral of this story is - disable them - get over it - itās working exactly as designed and there isnāt a thing we can do about it.
I canāt watch them, but apparently, āDebbieā can.
(if āDebbieā aināt happy - I get no cake when I go over - and I canāt stress strongly enough how much her happiness means - to me).
First thing I did too was disable all that junk in the settings and it will always stay off. And if they add more junk I will go straight to that settings page and disable that too!
