More trash tier content to turn Plex into a garbage level Android streaming app

I lied in the title. In fact, it’s the opposite of what I’m suggesting:

Stop removing features that users have requested and adding ones that no one wants. Start working on features users want and aren’t currently available.

I’m very quickly realizing I’m glad I haven’t bought a lifetime Plex Pass yet because I don’t know if I’ll be sticking with Plex long enough to get my money’s worth if I see so much trash added while features I started using it for get taken away.

Would you mind being a little more specific as for what features you lost.
If you don’t like the online media sources, simply disable them in your account settings.

I’ll gladly detail them tomorrow when I have more time, but for now can we get a comment on why y’all can’t focus on features that are actually demanded, instead of adding online media sources that almost literally no one is asking for?

Edit: If the sarcasm isn’t painfully obvious, this thread isn’t about removing features (such as making addons harder and harder to use), it’s about the fact that y’all spend time developing features that no one wants. You’re wasting the money that Plex Pass users spend, to add features we do not and wouldn’t want. We don’t need online media sources. We need you to care about Plex Media Server.

I didn’t realize you were a representative of the entirety of us Plex Pass users… I certainly didn’t vote for you… Please speak for yourself and not everyone else… There are some of us who do like the direction Plex is headed and don’t mind what was lost…

I’m not a fan of the online media sources. I hope it’s not a main focus. It took a bit of time to go around to all my devices and disable it.

We don’t need online media sources.

Let’s look at the long term picture here, shall we? A lifetime premium model is generally not sustainable. It’ll bring you lots of cash up front, but in the long term the costs start exceeding the amount of new subscribers, and then you have a large base of people who paid something and feel that their voice carries more weight because they once paid into something.

I’ve purchased glasses or shirts from Plex to help them get some extra revenue, but even if every Plex user was like me that’s still not a long term sustainable model.

In the long term, Plex is going to need something to provide revolving revenue. Subscription-based add-on services or Advertising supported content was going to be inevitable. I don’t use it myself, but I understand why they added it. As @tom80H said, you can turn off any of these sources if you are not going to use them. They have not gone the way that Boxee did (they shifted exclusively to dedicated set top box hardware and pushed only the premium content and severely crippled the home media assets.)

Adding these services will bring in new users that want something along the lines of Plex for media portability, but without all the media management that goes behind it, and generally users like that will be more likely to be paying for the convenience of someone else doing it for them.

I agree with you, it stinks that add-ons have been phased out, but then you need to see how certain 3rd-party add-ons have lead to a whole bunch of headaches for software suites like Kodi who is constantly fighting with the reputation of their name being directly associated with pirate-streaming 3rd party services. Not that your average Plex user is innocent of finding and adding videos they don’t own, but generally Plex users have to know something about acquiring the media to participate in it. Since it generally happens off of the Plex system, it hasn’t lead to the same problems that Kodi has.

I will also agree with you, lately it feels like they’ve been focusing more on adding that subscription stuff rather than the highly-voted up feature requests. But given the size of the project and partnership deals they’ve probably had to iron out to get the new stuff working, I’m a bit more understanding about it. They had to do what they had to do to sustain and survive in this wild frontier of media portability and management.

No need to disable them on each of your devices separately:

I’m happy with the direction Plex is going. So please speak for yourself. I like that Plex gives you the option to remove video on demand if you don’t want it. Bud if you’re having issues with your device not playing videos, it’s most likely the new video player. Go to settings, advanced, and turn off new video player.
