Server Version#: Doesn’t matter
Player Version#: most recent Android
It’s ridiculous that the cache is twice the size of the data. I don’t know what changed, but I had to delete two downloaded playlists because I was running out of space without changing anything. This happened today, so that might be relevant.
The cache is stuff like posters. If you’ve got access to a large library, the amount of posters it can download can be a lot. Your downloaded music is under data, so you don’t need to remove those to make space. Just clear the cache every so often.
If by “posters” you mean cover art, there’s even less reason for it to be twice the size of the audio files (given that there’s a lot more audio files than cover art, which is repeated).
And I was prompted to start this topic because, after about two months of stability, my phone suddenly was out of memory, and the thing that has changed is the amount of cache being used – more than twice the size of the stored data.
It’s not just the posters/cover art for what you’ve downloaded, it’s for everything in every library you have access to. The app keeps copies of them in the cache so things load faster. Otherwise it has to wait for the server to provide them everytime you look at a library.
If you have access to large libraries with lots of photos, that would cause a lot of things to get cached on your device.
