Caldera Android TV Issues (Muiltiroom)

I just fired up Caldera on two Android/Google TV’s (a Shield TV Pro & Bravia 7 Google TV), both sitting next to each other in the same room for testing purposes. I got “muiltiroom” to play on both via Plexamp which was awesome… but:

A: They played the music slightly out of sync until I selected “exclusive audio (low latenecy)” on the Bravia 7 Google TV instance of Caldera. When enabled, the audio on both played PERFECTLY in sync

B: This got me curious about turning on the “exclusive audio” feature on the Shield TV Pro, however I noticed that on the Shield TV Pro, every time I selected “exclusive audio (low latenecy)” the Caldera app crashed. Is there something weird about using the “low latency” feature on the Shield TV Pro?

C: When playing as a muiltiroom node, the Shield TV Pro didn’t display any album artwork but it did display the visualizer. The Bravia 7 displayed everything including the album art as configured. Is this by design?

These aren’t complaints, just curiosities. I am loving the new app! Wondering if anybody else has seen similar behaviour while trying it out? I am blow away with how great Caldera is on Android TV, @elan deserves huge kudos from the community AND huge kudos from whoever is still running the ship at Plex HQ.

Can confirm same behavior on Shield TV Pro (crashing on exclusive audio)

Thanks for checking it out! A few things:

  • There will be a way to measure and sync delay between groups of players (Plexamp runs that) which helps when the audio paths are different (hidden latencies too).
  • The exclusive audio feature is a bit new/experimental, and shouldn’t be viewed as a panacea for anything at the moment. In your case it sounds like it shifted latency in the right direction compared to the other one, but this will be achievable via other means in the near future as well. N.B. I don’t appear to see any crashes in Google Play for Shield TV Pro for some reason.
  • The Caldera Amp desktop apps are adding support for that multi-path viz so expect it coming to Google TV too.

You could try to submit logs on the Shield TV Pro and let me know you’ve sent them in here and I’ll see if there’s anything in them.

Thanks @elan
I just clicked “send debug logs” in Caldera on the Shield TV Pro at 6:55pm PST after it crashed and I logged back in. Does that help?

Sorry, nothing obvious. I’ve added more logging for the next release; just leave it off for now.
