Camera upload (start from NOW!)

Is there anyway for the camera upload feature to start uploading only new photos? Let me explain. My phone has roughly 500 photos that I have backup to my server through other software. I would like to keep these photos on my phone and not delete them. When I switch on “camera upload”, it starts uploading these photos and then will continue to upload the new photos.I understand that I could let it upload all the photos it wants to upload and then manually delete the “old” photos.

is there anyway to avoid this hassle? thank you

I have a similar question. I have 1200 photos (and videos) on my phone and 1178 of them are already on my newly created media server in a library called “Photos” but in a subdirectory called GalaxyS7/Camera/. When I configure the Camera Upload feature in the app, I can choose the album called “GalaxyS7” but there is no way to choose “GalaxyS7/Camera” so the feature tries to upload everything all over again.

I just want to upload new photos and videos, and preferably have some control over where.

I, too, have a similar problem.

On iOS, I have “iCloud Photo Library” turned on. When I started the photo upload feature, Plex started to import ALL the photos on my iPhone (including the ones on iCloud), not just the ones in my camera roll. This is not good, in my opinion.

What we need is the ability to either: (a) choose which album(s) ON OUR DEVICES get uploaded to Plex or (b) as mentioned above, a setting that will only upload photos after a particular date.

I was happy to see this feature introduced. It meant that the photos on my and my wife’s phone could back up to Plex and be ready for viewing. From there, I was planning to import them into Lightroom which is my main photos application.

I hope that the developers streamline this feature.

Thank you.

DSphoto which I used previously had such a feature (upload only new photos). In the end, I took the plunge and let my wife’s s6 upload 1000+ photos during the night. Problem is that the camera upload feature is still a bit flaky. Sometimes it would upload photos, other times not and in general I wasn’t happy with the way it worked. I am sure that it will get there, but it isn’t rock solid yet.

In the end I tackled the problem in a different way. I used the prime photos app from amazon (since I have amazon cloud drive subscription) to upload all our photos to amazon cloud drive and then I used rclone on my server (it’s running unraid) to pull them from the cloud. It goes a bit roundabout way, but my end result is the same (and one I wanted), to have one copy on my server and on in the cloud.

Plex does not have such a feature. Plex will only look in the DCIM folder so you can rename that folder so Plex won’t see it. Any new photos will generate a new DCIM folder that Plex will see and only upload those. Your gallery app should be able to see the old folder as well.

Thank you for your answer! I am satisfied with the setup I described so I won’t be changing it. However your answer was extremely helpful and to the point. It addressed the problem I had and if I go back to using the camera upload feature of plex, I will definitely do as you describe to avoid uploading photos again.
