Can EAC3 be passthrough as well? Just like with DTS, TrueHD and Atmos

I got TrueHD, Atmos and DTS playing well with a old version of Plex for Android/Shield (5.6).
If I use a newer version it keeps transcoding everything.
But with 5.6 I can’t play EAC3. It seems it is not passthrough just like the other audio streams?
Is this irritating codec incompatibility fixable?

I’m running Plex client 6.18.0. Passes EAC3 just fine, along with all other Dolby & dts formats to my Denon 4300H receiver.
I’ve had the Shield for at least 18 months. Never had a problem with audio passthrough.
