Is it possible to add a single file\Title and have it be updated in the plex DB without forcing a rescan the entire folder which can take several minutes for the title to appear in plex.
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/201242707-plex-media-scanner-via-command-line/
You cannot use this method if you have local extras for this single movie. The extras will appear as separate items in the library.
Thanks for the link. Unless I am overlooking something, it appears that there is no way to add a single movie. The command line options provide that the ability to start the scan options, which can also be done through the UI.
I have over 1000 movies so it takes a while for it rescan all of the movies. If I add a movie, I have to wait several minutes (ie 10 minutes) for the movie to appear in plex.
If there is a way to scan just a specific file so it added to Plex, please let me know. I am command line savvy. Thanks
You can only scan a single folder, which is also the recommended way to store your movies. Each movie in its own subfolder.
Which then provides a way to add a single movie by including the path parameter in the command line.
(Yes, it is also possible to put all movies into one single folder. However, scanning this big folder will get slower and slower the more items it has in it – particularly when also using external subtitles.
If you are looking to shorten the library scan times, go with the “one subfolder per movie” method. There is software out there which can help you to achieve this in a short time, e.g Filebot )
Thanks for taking time to clarify further. I understand what needs to be done now, I need to reduce the number of movies in a single folder.
