Can I simply swap out media (data) drive or are there 'gotchas'?

I have a 2 drive Win 10 system. Plex is on Drive C. All other media is on Drive E, a separate hard drive, which I wish to swap out for another drive and copy the media over to the new drive.

Is it that simple, or do I have to pay attention to volume labels, checksums, etc.? Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

No, as long as you stick to this order:

  1. copy the files over to the new drive
  2. shut down plex server
  3. swap the drive letter of the new drive to E: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-assign-permanent-drive-letter-windows-10
(If you want to keep the old drive for now, change it to some other letter first)
  4. Verify that all folder and file names have remained the same. i.e. do not attempt a restructuring or renaming during this move
  5. start Plex server

Since all files are remaining to be accessible under the same drive letter and folder path as before, Plex is oblivious to the drive swap.
