Hey OP - you're sure being a little whiny for someone asking for help.

Folks have given you what they believe are the issues. You disagree. Fine. Now it's your turn to figure out the problem yourself, or stop using the Xbox One app.

I'm sorry - but people are giving you free advice and assistance and all you're doing is pissing all over their suggestions. Go figure it out yourself.

Dude, this response was just as useless as what you're complaining about.  A lot of us are having trouble with the XB1 Plex app.  I have a custom-built quad-core powerhouse of a server for Plex (I also used it for ripping and re-encoding my media when I needed to), and I'm getting these issues as well.

I'm currently in the middle of removing Plex, deleting the whole appdata folder, and reinstalling Plex and reconfiguring it from the ground up.  That's a hell of a lot to do to make the app work, but if it does, great.  If not, a lot of us are going to be frustrated that it doesn't work.  To put it on point, I can stream a 1080p transcoded stream to my PC, tablet, and even smartphone just fine from the server, but teh XB1 only shows a black screen.  That says to me that it's not the media or the server, but the client app.

has anyone had success direct playing a file with 20+ bitrate? without transcoding

Yes but only when the audio was ac3. If I selected AAC audio, it causes stutter and then fails. Very strange.

Try the latest server, it has a few fixes which might help here.

Thanks, elan! I was having the same issue and the new server version solved it!

Will give it a go now.

Not pissing all over suggestions but when people tell me to try something that I know is not the issue then what else should I say?

When it works, the Plex app on the Xbox is great. Given other people have the same issues then chances are what I am experiencing is a bug of some variety and I am just trying to get to the bottom of that, for me and others.

So what is your helpful suggestion or have you just come here to moan?

experience same issues as OP, new version doesn't makes a different, i think we just to be patience and wait for full support from MS of mkv files.

Definitely try the newest server 0.9.11.0. I was testing last night with the old version (0.9.10.0) and it was freezing frequently. I updated this morning and all is working well now.

working perfect here on a

dual core processor

2gigs ram

windows 7 system

1080p 5.1

1080p 2.0

720p 5.1

amazingly fast and great quality!

Question, I have tried on several servers (and I only use mkvs) I noticed that all 1080p streams are using 100% cpu due to transcoding... will the xbox ever be able to play these mkvs without transcoding?

I'm not positive since I convert everything to MP4 for compatibility with everything, but it looks like Xbox One does support MKVor will soon.

One thing to note on the 100% CPU while trasncoding. As long as your server's CPU is able to transcode faster than realtime you should be fine. It will do the entire movie while you are watching it and stop once the whole movie is transcoded.

I have the preivew now and it doesnt seem to handle mkvs very well :P  Also i have a dual core 2.0ghz with 6 gigs of ram, the movies are very skippy when playing.  Is that my problem or could it be something else?? :)

Just ignore the "useless" comments....  The app is essentially a glorified beta with the current state of the xbox one supporting codecs atm.  Gotta give ms and plex a few releases to iron out the bugs.

Yea the Xbox One will support MKV in the next update but it has a hard time playing any mkv with more than one channel of audio.

As an update, completely rebuilding my Plex install using the 0.9.10.3 base (and then updating to 0.9.11 since it got released right after) almost totally resolved my issues.  No more blank screens, just some occasional stuttering I have to sort out.

So While that is a time-intensive option, I would recommend it to others.  I also used this opportunity to cleam up my folders and file naming, since I had change my naming standards a couple years ago, and had a lot of old media with the old standard.

Well i play all MKV's, and i don't have any stuttering issues since my inital install issues that i fixed.  Yes, it only transcodes the audio from DTS/DTS-HD to ac3.

So to anyone saying they are still having issues, answer some basic questions.

-what is Plex set to for the quality?  (When you start to play something, if you hit A, go to the ellipses, and then quality)

-Check the logs also, see what bitrate you're getting log location: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs  and see what the bitrate of your stream is.

I was seeing issues with the bitrate being throttled below 8mbps which will cause your 1080p to hiccup.

-while you are streaming, and seeing the issue login to the web app, go to Activity, and then see what is going on with the stream.  There should be an info button on whatever you are streaming, it will tell you if it is transcoding at all, (which it most likely is).

-Check the file info, make sure it is something that the xb1 can play with direct play.

Do the files have subtitles? My NAS has a similar CPU - it can transcode very well generally speaking, but the way Plex handles my subtitles kills the CPU. Also, if the file contains DTS-HD this currently seems to kill my CPU too..

I'm not sure if it makes a difference for Plex, but if you output to an AV receiver check the audio settings on your Xbox to see if it's set to bitstream out (rather than 5.1/7.1 uncompressed). I think this helped me, but I could be wrong! I also have it set to DTS rather than Dolby Digital.

so are you saying the xbox will bitstream DTS HD Master to a receiver !!? if this is true and there isn't a 20mbps cap on the player i will be interested in the Xbox
