I’m currently wondering whether you can potentially please have an option added to the Windows installer. Currently the Plex Media Server will install as a program which will run when the user logs on; however this means the user has to configure auto logon in order to have it always auto start. It would be better if you could please add a check box option labelled “Install As A Service”, this would allow it to install as a Windows Service.
With the check box set it would cause the media server to be installed natively as a Windows Service only removing the need to configure windows’ auto-logon feature. When the check box is unset then it would do what it is doing right now (installs as a normal program).
It would really help your Plex DVR features when they are being used remotely (potentially well away from the private PMS servers). It would most definitely help to avoid missing DVR scheduled recordings or interruptions to Live TV.
Cause if the current logged on session is unintentionally interrupted for some reason at the moment you may lose more of the recording; until Windows re-logons on. As a service the media serving (and DVR functions) could resume as soon as Windows has booted back to the logon screen.
