Can we have an Close button?

Is there a way to get a Close button on Plex for Windows Player? To be clear, Close = terminate the application. Unless I’m missing something, the easiest way currently is to “Exit full screen” and then right click on the taskbar and close window. I believe there’s a shortcut too, but no one would ever guess this.

It’s cleverly disguised as the teeny-weenie ‘x’ if you want to terminate a stream.
You will be well advised to NEVER put the thing in Full Screen mode - and close it from there. You will be well advised to minimize the page - and close it from there.

A whole host of Plex Employees will be along shortly to tell you it’s all working perfectly - but you and I know that is not the case.

If you terminate a session in ‘Full Screen’ you’re gonna pay the price later - guaranteed.

I’m not sure what the issue is unless Windows version is different to Mac version. Full screen there is a double ended arrow thingie available in full screen and after using the Stop X, it’s in top menu bar.

That doesn’t show up in all clients - when you need it.

I stopped closing full-screen Plex apps a LONG time ago - a practice that has paid off in dividends that are hard to imagine.

So my clients are all compliant, some good news for me today.

Perhaps.

I don’t own a MAC, or Shield.

On anything else - if you close a ‘Full Screen’ client.
Good Luck.

If you’re interested in a non-mouse way to do it, there’s always Alt-F4…

So escape on keyboard won’t work?

We used to tell guys to do that in Battlefield Vietnam…
It was a hoot… (and still is, come to think of it)

Plex is relying on the Windows UI for closing, resizing, minimizing, but I should be able to do that from within the app at anytime. I should not have to minimize first. That’s not intuitive.

Like others are saying, Plex does gets stuck in fullscreen and hides the Windows X button. It’s also wacky no doubt in 4K. Plex currently has about 20 buttons on the fullscreen UI already. A close (and minimize) would be my most used feature honestly, as I and non-techie users need to switch over to the browser and other streaming apps.

Esc closes modals/menus. It doesn’t even close the player. X does that – sorta. It opens up a confirmation modal.

On a Mac if you direct the cursor to movie body, the Arrow thingie and close function appears

The Windows controls do not show up on all my PC’s. Screenshot below. The close button needs to be in the Plex app, not outside it. I should not need to resize the window to close the app. And you just made me realize that every time I OPEN Plex I need to maximize it!

The screenshot is my PC which has no Windows controls. This is a long time bug I believe.

Oh… wait a minute…

You got an icon… the angular arrows will send the full-screen hounds back to the kennel. (upper right)

You gotta play by the rules, Man… (others don’t have that icon…or it does something totally unexpected…lol)

Thats how it is supposed to be, use the X to close Double arrow to bust the full screen.

Another point in Alt-F4’s favor: If you close the Plex desktop app while it’s full-screen, using Alt-F4, the next time you open it it will return to full-screen. Obviously this won’t work if you need a completely mouse-driven experience. Unless you can bind that key combination to a mouse button.

Here’s something…

I use PMP for the TV.
I use it in Full Screen/TV View.
It has no other purpose.

I open and close it on the TV.
When it opens it’s ready for use.
When I close it - I’m done with it for now.

If one has a dedicated use for an app - do that.
If one has a variable use for an app - don’t do that.
