Cannot access server from plex.tv

I can access my Plex server through http://[server IP]:[port] but not through plex.tv, kept saying the server is not available. The server can still grab metadata for my media so it does have Internet access. No firewall or blocking rules that I know of.

Looking at the server logs, I believe this is the cause:

Doesn’t look like that IP is included in the list I received when I tried ā€œwget pubsub.plex.tv?access_token=[my token]ā€. I don’t know where it got the IP address from:

Logs are attached. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling (also removed ~/Library directory), still have the same issue.

same here. I receive the same messages in my plex log plus the server is not anymore using a secure connection so i cannot see it anywhere under plex.tv.

The logs are showing it can talk to Plex.tv but is being denied access.

Username / password / other authentication method (facebook account) misalignment ?

For me, it’s happening on a new plex server i am trying to set up and I have made sure the auth token is 100% valid and renewed (no Facebook connected). I have another plex server which is older, same settings same account, same server that is working fine and it s shown normally under plex.tv.

Don’t know if helps, but i have PLEX pass (it is on another username i own).

PS: if i use http://app.plex.tv/desktop?secure=0 then it shows the server. Server has secure connections set to ā€˜preferred’.

I use Plex account login, and I checked the token in Preferences.xml, they are all valid (I can grab Plex pubsub server list with the token). Same situation as @davidwittrock, I can’t see my server without adding ?secure=0 to the URL.

Go into your server settings locally (http://ip.addr.of.host:32400/web) and change the setting to Preferred.

For me, it’s already set to Preferred while i get this behavior.

It is already ā€˜Preferred’ for me as well.

You do have Remote Access enabled if going through Plex.tv ?

You can access it from your own DDNS if you have one which is why I referenced ā€œPreferredā€

PMS will, by default, encrypt (https) unless expressly told not to… This is what you’re seeing and the mandated ?secure=0 to force it off.

browsers are, by default, as most everything, https. and that’s what plex.tv expects.

I use docker official image, and am configuring PMS ports manually in order to enable Remote Access. So for me, yes the Remote Access is enabled but still the server can only be accessed with ?secure=0 on plex.tv and doesn’t have the green lock icon as my other plex servers which are on identical setup.

If it doesn’t have the green lock then Plex.tv won’t broker the connection automatically.

I am retagging this for docker as Docker is not a skill I’ve mastered by any sense.

Don’t know if ppkhoa, the original author of this issue, is using docker as well.

Nope, not using Docker, confirming with provider to make sure. I’d like to know why Plex is refusing connections and I can’t use my server through plex.tv without ?secure=0

I changed hardware and used the same IP address as the previous server so all my firewall settings are the same as before. I cannot get remote access to work unless i allow insecure connections. This always worked before and was never a problem. After changing hardware there was a plex update that put my machine in this status and many of my plex friends were now showing as offline also. Please let me know what needs to be done to get the HTTPS part of this working again.

Thanks,

Hey guys, @bradslagle, @ppkhoa . I am wondering what your PMS region is, as I think that it might be a regional back-end PLEX server issue. My PMS server is hosted in Nethlerlands and the
PubSubServer is 82.94.168.22. Find this info in your Preferences.xml

Mine is in the Netherlands as well., Latest version available on plex.tv

I looked in the Plex Media server folder on windows and I don’t even have that file.

When I go to plex.tv and login, my server is listed twice on the left? one link worked the other was a dud, they had different machine numbers. When I migrated from my old to new server I exported and imported the old plex server machine ID onto the new server. This is why it wouldn’t allow secure connections. After changing the number in the registry to the correct machine id I was able to allow remote connections and keep my ssl network settings at preferred. hope that helps someone.

Same thing for me about server being listed twice on Plex.tv. But I’m on Debian, how do I change my machine ID?

plex is a bug, probably have mining software in it. took 100% of my computer random in time each week. have the same problem on many many computers. Need to kill plex and restart. 3 years now and they have never fixed that bug. plex was good 5 years ago, now its like microsoft, the company have nothing to do with you. they just want your money with thier unfinished product. Like 80% of company now. You can now regret your buy! and why you think they put a timer on each forum page… because they will just not answer you and they want to show you they have a good forum. but its failed.
