app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “TableTaffy” securely. That’s the message I get trying to connect to my friend’s media server. I got on Plex only to watch his server, I know nothing else about it. I’m on iOS so I have no way of changing whether a secure connection is required or not.
That would be an issue with their server not the app on your device. We would need to see their server logs to see what might be going on.
He keeps telling me it’s my security settings because other people can connect to his server just fine. There’s no way to alter security settings on the Mac OS version of the app. The web app doesn’t allow it, either.
In your original post you said iOS, in the last comment macOS…do you get the secure connection error in the Safari browser on iOS? Did you try the mobile app instead? Did you try disconnecting from your wifi and using cellular connection to see if it will work?
If you’re getting it on macOS, are you using a browser or the desktop client?
Have you tried changing the dns servers on your devices/network to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 or 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1? This is usually a local fix for connecting on the same network as the server though.
Your friend may have a cert issue that the logs would show. It doesn’t always impact all clients the same, which could be why others can connect.
