Bump. I also have this issue as well and it’s because Plex isn’t supporting these commands. When I’m casting a playlist I’d like to be able to skip or go back using the Chromecast controls from my phone or Home Assistant. Please look at implementing this. Thanks.

Every single audio app I use (deezer, Spotify, yt music, etc) when casting to a Google device (ie Google Hub Max), you can say “Ok Google, next song” to have it skip. When I use plexamp, the only way to skip is via grabbing my phone and hitting the skip button. When you try it with Plexamp it just says it can’t do that.
Please for the love add this feature. It’s the only missing thing from Plexamp

Please revisit this post as it surely should be possible without too much extra work. Even if some older versions no longer work, heaps of other app’s dont support older devices. The App store itself stores all verions and will just install the last compatible version. Please this feature is kinda a must for any music service.

Bumping. I’d be happy enough with having support for Plex-specific previous/next feature added into the pychromecast project if a general/complete solution is not possible.
However, that SDK requires Android API 27 (i.e Android 8.1).
If it’s really not possible for Plex team to do it any way other than to use a new enough Chromecast SDK, does it make sense to expect it will take about 2 years (the time period between Android 6.0 and 8.1 releases) to raise the minimum required Android version from the current 6.0 to 8.1 and at that moment then we will get the prev/next functionality?
EDIT: some Plex APK variants list Android 5.0 as the minimum version, that would mean getting the feature by default in 3 years’ time, not 2 years.
Isn’t this all actually purely dependent on the Chromecast Receiver App which runs on the Chromecast itself and not the phone ? One doesn’t even need a plex app, just an android phone with Google home app to control the playback of the chromecast ( once the plex playback was initiated from somewhere ) , and that doesn’t show the next/previous controls as it’s not supported by the chromecast webapp receiver. Or would the plex app not be able to cast to an updated chromecast receiver app ?

bump… it’s sad that there is zero care here … this is basic Chromecast functionality … also the album art is not provided when casting …
Agreed, even the lack of album art makes the experience so much worse than any of the other solutions out there. I completely get the need for Plex to seek alternative income streams than just relying on Plex Pass subs, but the feeling of inferiority after a top-tier purchase is just wrong.
