Cannot delete some folders due to .srt & .log files being left over. Plex is on MyCloudPR4100

WD MyCloudPR4100 NAS server was getting close on space. Part of my deletions to free up space were movies and tv shows in the corresponding Plex libraries. There were some folders left over in the “TV Shows” library, most were easy to remove since they had zero content. Unfortunately there are others with left over .srt & .log files that Plex does not see to delete. The folders and content cannot be directly deleted in the same way the empty folders were deleted since I do not have credentials for the files outside of Plex.

Ran optimization but did not help.

Any suggestions, directions is greatly appreciated.

Plex isn’t a file management solution. Fix the access on your NAS, and its permissions.

Thank you for the reply! It is true Plex is not a file management system, hence the ability to delete the empty folders in the library folder.

But if there is content that Plex placed in the folder, ie: tv shows content. Plex retains the control over said content and can only be removed by Plex. Any attempt to delete directly only results in the message that you do not have rights to delete it. Unfortunately these ,srt and.log files were left behind by Plex. Now it does not see the folders or content to remove them.

Which is my dilemma. How do I get Plex to remove them or is there another tool within or outside of Plex to delete them?

I would first check your WD settings for the share where you have your media, both the Plex user and the account you use should have full access.

Once permissions are fixed you can manually delete those files. (Plex may have created the subtitle files, but I have never seen plex create log files outside of its log directories)

Thank you! Will check that this evening.

Reread your reply. As far as the WD NAS PR4100, I have full ADMIN rights.

I agree about the log files. It has boggled my mind as to why and how they were created there.

Have you gone back and re-applied file permissions? Sometimes chmod can get messed up.
