Cannot Reclaim Server

Server Version#: 1.40.2.8395
Player Version#: Web

I am running Plex using the LinuxServer.io Docker image. Somehow I was locked out of my server, and was getting a page saying “Not authorized. You do not have access to this server.”. I removed the options from Preferences.xml mentioned in this article: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

Unfortunately after doing so, Plex wouldn’t even start, with the error: “Failed to load preferences at …”

So, I removed Preferences.xml and restarted. Then when I access web UI, I got the same “Not authorized” error page. Unfortunately the page just links to that article above, which obviously did nothing to help. I figured at this point that the issue must be that the server isn’t claimed. I thought I remembered from when I was in similar situations in the past that the server is supposed to allow you to login and claim the server, but there was no option here. I wound up finding this script which automates the process and decided to try it: UserCredentialReset/UserCredentialReset.sh at main · ChuckPa/UserCredentialReset · GitHub

Initially it seemed to work, since it completed successfully and I found it had added the PlexOnline… options back into the Preferences.xml. However, when I start the server and connect to it, while I do get the UI now, no information about the server shows up at all. It is not listed on the sidebar and when I go into Account Settings, there is no section for the server. I’m at a complete loss at this point as to what I should try next and I’d appreciate any help. Thanks

I realized the Plex server might not allow access remotely, so I setup port forwarding with SSH, which allowed me to view the server settings. I’m still not able to claim the server though. Every time I click the “Claim” button under the general server settings, it spins for a minute before failing with status code 500 (Internal Server Error)

Try the User Credential Reset utility:

Did you not read my post? I mentioned that I tried that

My bad. PEBKAC error.
