Cannot stop phantom plex new transcoder, using 300% CPU

Step 1: Go here: https://plex.tv/pms/servers.xml. Look for the machineIdentifier for your server.

Step 2: Go to: https://plex.tv/servers/machineIdentifier/sync_listsand put your machineIdentifier in there.

That worked.  Thanks.

My https://plex.tv/servers/machineIdentifier/sync_lists is empty, likely because there are no longer any sync lists. Maybe if I turn on syncing again, I can find the culprit. When I load that link (with the machineidentifer in the link), this is what I see:

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

Also, which machineidentifier for my server is it? I'm assuming the identifer2? I tried both of these but both were blank as shown above anyhow.

Am I doing that right? So it'd be plex.tv/servers/identifier2/sync_lists (but really using the identifier string)

And sa2000, your recommendation is good too, but I guess I'd have to recreate the problem as well to discover the culprit, turn on tokens, then turn syncing back on. I think I should do this.

And drzoidberg33, I actually have plexwatchweb installed and loved using it, however I had to disable it (well, stop accessing it) because if you've tracked the plexWatch thread at all, there are a bunch of us that are discovering that when we load our plexwatchweb pages, it corrupts the plexwatch.db (breaking the plex notify script), which we then have to trash and replace with a backup before the time of corruption. The time of corruption is exactly when you load the plexwatchweb page. There were several of us with this problem and have asked for assistance in that thread, but no answers. We were never having problems before the PMS or plexwatch update. Not sure when it first began. Has there been an update to address this problem? (Sorry, haven't been reading all the posts in plexwatchweb thread.) I'd love to re-enable it.

Correct, you should use the value you've specified as identifier2. It's odd then that you're not seeing anything listed, that would most likely mean nothing is synced from that server. Maybe the sync process was never able to complete for any of the items before you cancelled them? I'm not sure though.

Regarding your PlexWatch db issue, I haven't had issues with this myself. What OS you running it on?

I deleted all transcoded videos (because I didn't know what they were and were clogging my drive), plus I disabled sync with every single user. I think I'd have to re-enable to get them listed there.

I have since updated to Yosemite on a new mac mini, and I haven't tried plexwatchweb on it. I think I'd have to reinstall everything as website stuff gets messed up and doesn't really migrate over.

But the OS I was on before (when I was having the issue) was Mavericks. There were several of us that were all of a sudden having the exact same issue around the same time. So something to do with some update or something.

I should try and reinstall it with the latest build too (really cool feature to have sync stats) - as you can see that would have been very helpful during this whole confusing debacle. I'll let you know if I have any issues in the other thread. Thank you.

Just make sure that the permissions all match up. Make sure that the same user owns both PlexWatch and PlexWatchWeb. Mine runs on a Linux box and haven't had these issues though, so it maybe down to something else like a sqlite issue only on Mac.

Problem solved. I could have sworn PMS had PMS (anyone used that joke yet?) because it was the most bizarre thing. But since you really can ask to sync the 100 most recent TV episodes (who in their right mind would do that?!), it definitely ended up being human error... and of course it was my wife. I'll have to figure out how in the world she even did it, because she has no idea that she did.

Hahaha :D

Hope she gets you something nice for all your effort.

I just changed the setting servers / transcoders / Maximum simultaneous video transcode = 1

That dropped the CPU % from 550% to 8%
