By definition, raw files are not viewable, they need to be processed to turn the data into an actual image. This processing can take a long time depending on the amount of data that needs to be processed. This would not be a good experiencing waiting for these files to get processed each time they are viewed.
HEIF is a different issue. It’s a complicated format and needs a lot of work to support.
Hi MovieFan,
RAW files are nevertheless images as well. They are not compressed and contain the most Information possible for the image. The PMS might use a raw converter or something similar to view the RAW files, as my CR2 raw files (from my older Canon) can be viewed without an issue. That’s why I was assuming, that a raw converter for CR3 files will be implemented the sooner or later as well, maybe the sooner if more people ask for it
I don’t like and don’t use HEIF - I can’t see the point in making movies, when I just want to take stills.
I didn’t even know we supported CR2 files. I just confirmed we do. CR3 files may just work and we are just not picking up the extension. Have you tried just renaming the extension and seeing if Plex will pick it up.
If that doesn’t work, can you send me a cr3 file so I can pass it along to the devs so they have something to use if they can add support.
I tried renaming a CR3-File - the file itself is recognized, but it doesn’t get processed obviously.
. I can share a link to a CR3 file if you send me your email address.Ok, it will take some work to get CR3 working. There are request for other raw formats too. My suggestion is to create a feature request and see how popular getting CR3 working is to the user base.
