A remote server changes things a bit.
This is the situation, correct?
- Two servers. One local, one remote.
- PC can access and play media from both servers
- TV can access and play media only from local server
-
In the Plex LG app, if you select
Moreat the bottom of the home screen, is the remote server listed? You should see both the local and remote servers. -
If the remote server is listed, what is to the right of the name?
Is it a triangle with an exclamation point inside?
You may need to disable secure communications for both the TV and the servers, including the local server.
Then, on the LG remote control, press the back button. You should eventually see a message similar to “Would you like to exit the Plex app?” Say yes, then re-launch the Plex app. This forces the TV to reload the app. You won’t have to re-authenticate or run through the setup screens.
Important information about Plex for smart TVs after September 30, 2021
If your smart TV app has trouble connecting to a Media Server after September 30th, please ensure that both the app and the server are set to allow insecure connections: On the TV app, ensure that Settings → Advanced → Allow Insecure Connections is set to Always, and on the server, ensure that Settings → Network → Secure connections is set to Preferred.
FWIW, I’ve a LG B7 OLED. If I configure my server for secure communications = required, then the Plex app on the TV cannot access my server. I have to have my server with secure communications = preferred, and the TV set to allow insecure communication to always.
