Can't Get New Version of Server to Install

Server Version#:Version 1.3.3.3148
Player Version#:Version 2.12.5

When I try and install a server update I get a message that flashes on the screen saying something went wrong. Any thoughts on how to address the problem. Should I reinstall the newest version of the server? If I do will it keep all my current settings?
