Is there a way I can manually change the meta/tag information for an album in my music collection?
I’m a musician and have several albums I have released. When I add my albums to Plex, the meta provider that Plex uses incorrectly tags my albums. I try to manually change the tags in Plex and you can see it try to resort the music collection with my new “artist name” tag, but then quickly reverts it back to the incorrect tag.
I just found that if I’m sorted by album, I can’t change the tags, but if I sort by artist and change the tags there, it works. Weird Plex, just weird.
That is best done outside of Plex - preferably before you add it to a library, but this thing is magical in that regard: https://www.mp3tag.de/en/
Change your settings to ‘prefer local metadata’ - embed your favorite cover and from there it’s easy-peasy… for me, a non-recipient of recent Plex Premium Music Shenanigans.
Edit - or you can edit after the fact and hope Plex doesn’t come along later and try to fix that for you… fingers crossed.
I’ve used MP3Tag for years, and yes it is magically. However, I’m moving most of my library away from MP3, these particular files are all WAV so you can’t embed any meta data. I might have to convert to FLAC, as I think that does support embedding meta tags.
Good heads up on the “prefer local metadata”. Might come in handy in the future.
If you release your own music, I think you are the best source for “authoritative” metadata about it.
Get an account at musicbrainz.org and look up and edit your stuff to perfection. This is the source Plex is using for music metadata.
