Can't run Plex on my Qnap Ts809pro, help!

Server Version#:Version 1.9.6.4429
Player Version#:

Good afternoon,

I would appreciate it if someone could help me out. I have a QNAP Pro Ts809 NAS which was working very successfully with Plex server until recently when 2 or more disks died.

I backed up all the Plex media, rebuilt my file system and have just copied all the data back onto my new NAS filing system. I visited my APP store for QNAP and downloaded/installed the latest version available for Plex server (Version 1.9.6.4429). When I run up the server I get the following message for about a split second ‘an unclaimed media server has been found on your network’ and then a grey plex background with the following message’ An error Occurred’ there are no menus to navigate the server. If I quick on ‘back’ in the browser containing the Plex server it loads the Plex home page where I have access to the settings.

Under settings, Server; I have tried to ‘Claim’ the server but nothing happens. Immediately below that option, the system informs me there is a newer version and to install it manually. Following the link, I am taken your website where I can select my NAS manufacture (QNAP) and version 1.20.3.3437-f1f08d65b appears to be available. I am then asked to select one of the four options below:

• Intel/AMD 64-bit (QTS-4.3 and newer)
• ARMv8 (TS-x28, and TS-x32 Series)
• ARMv7 (TS-x31, and TS-x31U Series)
• ARMv7 (TS-x31+, TS-x31P, TS-x31P2, TS-x31X, and TS-x31XU Series)

I believe my Ts809 PRO has an Intel processor and then downloaded the ‘Intel/AMD 64-bit (QTS-4.3 and newer)’ option. The install gets to about 3% complete and then crashes saying ‘the following items (selected package) could not be installed; check the system logs’ All the logs contain is’ [App Center] Failed to install Plex Media Server. Upgrade QTS to 4.3.0 or a newer compatible version’, not particular helpful?

I would appreciate it if somebody could help me as I am not sure how to move forward from this point.

Kind regards

  1. Your NAS model is not listed on the Compatibility Guide. If I remember correctly, QNAP obsoleted it.

  2. To confirm my suspension, which version of QTS are you currently using?

The QNAP support page

shows the final version of QTS supported is 4.2. If the page is true, then this model can no longer host PMS.

Good morning.

My current firmware is 4.2.6. I am happy to run using the previous version of Plex,
V1.9.6.4429. How do I claim my server? For some reason I can’t sign to plex?? Just says plex not reachable???

Daniel

Daniel,

The most you can hope for is the ClaimIt utility on Github.
This is because the Plex.tv minimum version required now is well above 1.9.6 (it’s either 1.13.2 or, I more correctly believe, 1.15.2 for newly registered servers)

That’s very frustrating as I have a 14TB perfectly functioning NAS, purchased just to use as my plex server. It just seems a complete waste of money to go purchase another server when it works perfectly fine, at the end of the day its just a fileserver.

The annoying thing is I have reimported all of my media and downloaded all of the metadata from Plex into V1.9.6.4429… so close but so far… I cant see it from any Plex player’s.

Are you an official spokes person from Plex? do I not have any other options to extend my server a little longer with plex?

Hi Chuckpa,

could you email your private email address to me direct.

Check the upper right corner here (your Private Messages) That green dot is a message from me.

I have the same Problem with my TS908 and PMS 1.14.1.5488.

Can everybody help me?

@Erwin86

There is no TS-908 on record. Please verify the model number

The model number is QNAP TS-809U

Sorry for the delay responding.

I’m more sorry for the news:

  1. PMS 1.14.1 is too old now to use with any of the Apps. 1.15.2 is the minimum version requirement which is soon to increase again.

  2. QNAP has dropped support for that model and never did update its QTS version to 4.3. (Please correct me if I’m mistaken). QTS 4.3, which provides glibc 2.14.1, is the required minimum to run PMS on a host.

I have the Version 2.6.1
[~] # ldd --version
ldd (GNU libc) 2.6.1

can i upgrade this version?
or with party must be upgraded?

For you, the problem is not just that of glibc.
You must also update App Center which isn’t possible without updating the entire firmware.
