Hi, I have a problem. I have Plex Media Server installed on my QNAP NAS (TS 459 Pro II with QTS4.2.6). However, it’s version 1.9.6.4429. I’d like to update it because I can’t log in with my Plex account, which is why the smartphone app isn’t working. However, when I install the latest version, my NAS tells me I need QTS4.3.x. Which PMS version can I use? And how do I get it?
Server Version#: 1.9.6.4429
QTS 4.3.4 has been the minimum requirement for ~6 years (Changes for QNAP and CentOS support in Plex Media Server - Announcements - Plex Forum), so 1.14.1.5488 is the last version that works on QTS 4.2.6. Even if you could find a 1.14.1 package for QNAP, it’s probably still too old to play nice with updated clients though. Your best option is likely to use the NAS purely for storage, running PMS on a different machine that has newer hardware.
The CPU in the TS-459 Pro is the Atom D525 .
It is a 32 bit CPU.
QNAP dropped 32 bit support when QTS 4.3 was released.
At QNAP’s direction, Plex discontinued support for 32 bit systems below 4.3 due to lack of host support.
At this point, a recommendation would be:
- Keep the NAS as the NAS it is. It will continue to serve
- Purchase a simple “Beelink” or similar (4x4 bricks) with a modern CPU
( approx $150 USD for the latest Beelink 12 Pro – N100 AlderLake graphics) - Load up your OS of choice (Windows or Linux)
- Mount the NAS media on the box
- Install and run PMS from that box.
FWIW: I have 3 of these (testing purposes). IMO, they’re fantastic. Minimal power utilization. Barely even warm to the touch. Transcodes 4K UHD like it’s nobody’s business.
