Issue: Once media (audio/video) play back is started the playback buttons stop working and the now play status doesn’t update unless you press one of the buttons.
Work around: The only way to stop playback is via the dashboard.
Browser: Chrome and Edge
OS: Windows 10 and 11
Request: Fix the bug or enable casting in plex-desktop so I can stop having to use plex-web.
also, anyone seeing this feel free to reply if you are having this issue or not. While I did test on two different computer, two different OS versions, and two different browsers, I guess it could still be a me thing…

Sends all your Windows desktop audio to your Chromecast device.
So maybe a way for those of us that use PLEX with Chromecast from a desktop 99% of the time to use the desktop app not plex-web. I have a touch screen in the kitchen living room space and it acts 80% of the time as a PLEX kiosk casting to Chromecast audio. (FLAC 96/24)
Well, that might not be a good option, both the plex-desktop app and the audio streamer are CPU hoggs. (sigh)
Hummm, well the CPU thing stopped so I’m using the audio streamer work around.

I cannot reproduce this. Which chromecast model are you using?
I have a standard Chromecast and a Chromecast Audio. Let the media (audio or video) run for 10 sec then try to stop it.

Good, I was going to say give it a few tries after I noticed if you start play back then turn right around and stop it, it works, but only a few times. It feels like a counter or buffer needs to fill up. I wish I could tell you when it started, it took me a month or so to get around to reporting it.
So is this a thing that I need to teach my wife how to work around or is it something that can be fixed sooner than later?
I cannot provide any ETA for a fix.
Reporting that this bug when casting from plex-web is happening to me as well (so you aren’t the only one, moledig).
Not only does the stop button stop working, but also the next and previous player controls if you have a queued playlist.
The media continues to play though.
I would say the bug started about a month ago as well. Which kind of lines up with the 4.159.0 release.
Thanks for posting, I was beginning to think I was the only one using PLEX with Chromecast. 
Absolutely no idea, but the playback control bug disappeared this morning without any intervention. Weird
