To better understand your issue; when are you getting the "Channel is Currently Unavailable" error?

I get it when I try and select the channel. This occurs across all devices that try accessing the channel. Keep in mind, this is all done over my local wireless lan. So here's the steps to reproduce the error:

On my Roku-3 I go into plex, select the channel I've set up with your caster-app. It loads the "sub-channel" ie: where the launch button and settings button are. If I then select Cast, I get the error. The odd thing is, even though I get the error, the app still loads on my computer. It seems a few other people are having this issue, and I'm wondering what could be the issue. I had originally thought it had something to do with the fact that I run a local apache server/sql server on my computer for web-design work I do, but I also tried setting up plex on other computers in the house with the same end-result. 

I've also gone so far as to set my plex computers into DMZ- mode through my router, and disabling all firewalls with no luck. As well, all other channels seem to work fine, with the exception of your app-launcher, as well as the one I referred to in my OP. 

I appreciate the time you're taking to help me out with this btw :) What irks me, is that python is one of the few web-based languages I DON'T know, so I can't fix it myself.

I've been encountering the same issue with my Windows and Linux clients running PHT (my PMC client hasn't exhibited the same behavior); I think the fix should be fairly simple...I think...

Python is pretty easy to pick up (especially if you've already got experience working with other web-based languages). Starting with zero knowledge of Python, it took me about a month to code and test the initial version of Caster.

I'm trying to use this so that I can launch Steam Big Picture mode from within PHT. I have hit a snag though.. my C: drive is an SSD, and Steam and all the games are on D:

Can't figure out how to point it at the D: drive?

Sorry to bug! Is it possible to point Caster at the D: drive or is it a limitation at the moment?

Maybe something I can edit to point to D: instead of C:?

This is currently a limitation.  I'm working on adding navigation to other drives for the next version.

In the meantime, you can create the channel using a placeholder executable from C (any application from the Programs folder), then - from the Media Manager web interface - change the "Executable Address" property in the newly created channel's settings, to the location on your D drive (you'll have to manually enter / copy & paste the path to the executable).

Well I gave this a whirl - set all the paths and icons, but when I press the Create Caster button, I just get This Channel Is Currently Unavailable. If I run Caster from PHT then I get The List Is Empty

I'm running PMS & PHT on the same machine which is running Windows 8.1

Not sure what I'm doing wrong!

Sorry for the super-late reply, dadrepuS.  If you haven't already figured it out, you can change where it places the channel, by changing the "Home Screen Section" attribute under Caster's preferences.

Yes but the selection is limited to: Application, Photo, Music, Video. It would be better if it defaulted to the Channel category since this is where the Plex admins are sending most channels. I still cannot create a channel choosing one of those locations, in PHT.

I have no Application, only Channel so maybe that's why I get an error when I press the Create Caster button.

Hmm.. A reboot of the PMS server seemed to have fixed the issues I was having and I can create channels now :-)

Haven't tried launching it yet though as the missus is using the TV and I was doing it via the web interface.

Hopefully it is all sorted now :-)

This was due to my using old code for the dialog boxes.  The error should no longer occur in the current beta version (1.3.8).  Please let me know if you run into any other issues.

It was an issue on my end (see my response above).  I've also added visibility to drives other than C.  Please let me know if you're still having issues.

I've designated Caster as a video channel (so it should be accessible now).

Unfortunately (fortunately?), Plex only recognizes channels designated as "applications", "photos", "music", or "video"...so you'll have to choose between those.  Although, since upgrading to PHT, all the channels I generated with the "applications" designation, have not worked (unless I launch them through the Media Manager; I ended up switching them all to video), so "applications" will probably be removed at some point.

Yes, you will need to select "Cast Steam" to launch the Steam application.  I went that route, as I wanted the ability to edit command line parameters after I'd created my channel.  However, I suppose I could add a quick-cast option for those who'd rather it open the application directly, without having to manually select the cast button.  :)

What version of Steam are you running?  Are you on BP beta?  Or just the normal update schedule?  Also, are you running Windows 7 or 8?  Steam BP opens on top of everything for me (I'm running the beta on W7); if you're running W8, it may be an issue unique to that OS (?).

Also, under PHT's system preferences, is it set to use a fullscreen window instead of true fullscreen?

Okay, so I dropped in the new code, and now things have changed. Instead of the "Channel unavailable" screen, I get a message saying "Cast to monster:" (which is the name of the computer plex is on). The app still launches as it always has, but nothing shows up in the channel. All I see is "Cast - (Channel name)" and the rest is the normal plex grey background.

Yes, you will need to select "Cast Steam" to launch the Steam application.  I went that route, as I wanted the ability to edit command line parameters after I'd created my channel.  However, I suppose I could add a quick-cast option for those who'd rather it open the application directly, without having to manually select the cast button.  :)

What version of Steam are you running?  Are you on BP beta?  Or just the normal update schedule?  Also, are you running Windows 7 or 8?  Steam BP opens on top of everything for me (I'm running the beta on W7); if you're running W8, it may be an issue unique to that OS (?).

I'm running BP Beta on Windows 8.1.

I was running MediaBrowser and that has a launcher for Steam and that worked correctly so don't think it is a Windows 8.1 issue.

I don't know if I am running PHT in fullscreen or fullscreen window as I can't check at the moment - it's running whatever the default is with a PHT install, as I haven't changed that.

And, the dialog will still be there.  For the moment, that's the only way to prevent the "Channel Unavailable" error.

As far as PHT showing minimized when exiting Steam...I'm not sure what's going on there.  Are you running something else that's causing PHT to minimize?

Okay, so I dropped in the new code, and now things have changed. Instead of the "Channel unavailable" screen, I get a message saying "Cast to monster:" (which is the name of the computer plex is on). The app still launches as it always has, but nothing shows up in the channel. All I see is "Cast - (Channel name)" and the rest is the normal plex grey background.

What I see is, now instead of getting a 404, it seems to all be working right. However, since nothings coming through, I'm guessing a step is somehow being missed somewhere along the line. 

Additionally, in chrome console I get the following:

My guess is, somehow the caster still isnt being found for some reason. 

When you create a Caster, you will get a channel containing "Cast [program name]...", and possibly "Options...".  You may not see the "Options..." entry if you're accessing the channel through an interface other than the Media Manager and PHT (for instance: accessing my Steam Caster channel from the W8 app, does not show the "Options..." entry).

When it starts the program, it will display a message dialog indicating the device it's launching on.  It remains on the channel's main menu, until you exit the channel (by navigating back to the channel list).

For your other issue; what do you mean by "nothing's coming through"?  Is neither Caster or your channel working / showing up in a specific interface?

I've now approached my problem in a different way - setting separate activities on my Harmony Ultimate and my Flirc receiver to select windows shortcuts and ALT F4 on activity change.

I mean just that. no content comes in. It says "cast to monster:" and that's it. I don't see anything else.

The application will launch (and, therefore, only be accessible) on the system on which PMS is installed (in your case, "monster").  If you cast your application from the Plex app on another device, or from a PHT client not on the same machine as PMS, you will only see "cast to [machine_name]".  The program you cast will not show up on the device or client.  You will have to check the PMS machine to see if the program has indeed started.
