So i have the latest Plex app on my android phone and run a plex server on my Synology NAS. When i start to cast from my phone using the plex app to my chromecasts it will start up with a generic screen saying ready to share but then starts fisplaying photos and video images from one of my libraries (and only that library). I would like to turn this off or control what images are shown in a differnt library so i only see new photos but i cant figure out how (via app or plex server).
I believe you are wanting to display photos on your TV when a screensaver is invoked. Plex has a Photos screen saver configurable in the Plex app running on your TV. Note it will only do a slideshow of photos that you have pinned. You could create a Photo library, say called PhotoShow, and configure it in PMS to have the photos you want to be shown in the slide show.
However, you are saying you’re using a Chromecast not the Plex app on your TV. So you then need to configure what pictures are shown when the Chromecast app decides to invoke the screensaver. I think that’s configured in the Google Home app and it will be showing photos from your Google Photos, not your photos in Plex.
In short, you need to identify what code (app/whatever) is running and in control as well as where it’s pulling its data from.
For me, my TV is large, I watch things it in using the Plex app and my remote. Only occasionally I’ll Chromecast something to it. As for my smartphone, the damn screen’s too small and awkward to hold to watch anything of interest or length so I rarely use Plex on the phone (I know all you yutes live on your phones…)
That’s not it @adefaria , not the main app, the Chromecast built-in app background, not screensaver. I use that app often, don’t believe there’s a way to pick and choose, it randomly picks any background pics which the current casting use has access to from their library.
The point is some app is running and is in control. You say the “Chromecast built-in app” - built-in or not, whatever app it is, it’s an app. You need to configure that. BTW the “Chromecast built-in app” is not Plex so that negates your post right here. Talk to the Chromecast people.
Great, then, again, talk to the Chromecast people - it’s their code. What it’s not is Plex’s code.
BTW Chromecast ain’t an app - it’s a service. Just now I started the YouTube app on my phone, selected a video and cast it to my TV. It played fine. I then rebooted the phone. The video continued to play. So what code was running? The Chromecast “app” running on my TV, not on my phone.
The point is you need to identify which code is running on which device and accessing which files in order to properly configure it. Complaining in a Plex forum about a Chromecast “app” is not gonna get you anywhere.
When I go into my Google Home app for my TV I see, under Ambient Mode a section that says “Google Photos - A selection of memories will be created”, “Art Gallery - Curated images and artwork” and “Experimental - Try out new sources and content” that I can configure under a heading that says “choose what you see on your screen when it’s not in use” . Do you not see the same on your phone?
Eish. Relax @adefaria . Noone is fighting
. @OttoKerner please advise when you can, but I do not believe you can select those pics in the apps background @bennett325 unless you restrict your library.
Right. I’m not fighting either, ergo I do not need to relax.
