I am new to Plex and have Plex Pass. I have several tv shows and movies that are 1080p mkv files that will not play through Plex. I can play these files on both my iPhone and Apple TV through other apps like VLC and Infuse. I can even play these directly off the NAS using a crappy old android phone. I can’t figure out why Plex won’t play these files. To further add to the confusion, there are other 1080p mkv files that play just fine so I can’t narrow down the cause. I am running a Plex server on a QNAP TS-251 NAS. If anyone can help I’d appreciate it.
There isn’t an error, I just keep getting the never ending circle like it’s trying to load the file. Also,I don’t own a PC or Mac, I just use a combination of an iPad Pro and an android phone to load files and manage my Plex server
I get a blank page with this address
192.168.86.77:32400/library/metadata/1875?checkFiles=1&includeExtras=1&X-Plex-Token=C13YJFcN4Z8KkUNazde9
Here’s one from a 1080p mkv file that works
192.168.86.77:32400/library/metadata/804?checkFiles=1&includeExtras=1&X-Plex-Token=C13YJFcN4Z8KkUNazde9
I was looking at the info panel. The files that don’t play have a codec HEVC. The ones that do play have H264. Could that be the issue?
That’s got to be it. It’s the same for every file
My bet is your NAS isn’t really capable of transcoding HEVC, so it’s basically stuck buffering.
