The past few weeks 90% of MKVs won't play on plex?

I’ve been searching for an answer to this issue that only started a few weeks ago. Almost all newer MKV files will time out and refuse to play with a error it can’t play the file. I can play them with VLC and Cast them. But I have a Synology Nas with 32TB of storage so casting from another device is not a solution. Has something changed with current MKVs or did Plex remove support for a codec? There’s nothing wrong with the files with any player except Plex. It doesn’t matter if I use a Nivida Shield, Roku, or a Pixel 8 pro to attempt playing these files if I use Plex it won’t play? Is there a new Codec out there VLC has but Plex doesn’t?

Nothing changed.
With which exact version of PMS and players are you experiencing this?

Also, what information is showing in the “now playing” tile for that playback on the Plex server dashboard?

MKV on Roku is working for me.

Nothing shows up in the “Now Playing” the server only tries to handshake but fails then I get the "An Error Occured While Attempting To Play This Video. Please Check Your Connection And Try Again

Blockquote

Later" but VLC can play it? Something is broken if it’s not a widespread issue. I didn’t change anything.

PMS version 1.41.4.9463-70009463

As I said it was working a few ago . I just updated to 1.41.5.9522-70009522 Plex PMS it’s still happening

Anything in your server logs?

I just figured out the issue it’s a Very Old Plex issue not being addressed!!! EAC3 Audio is causing this! Every files with EAC3 Audio is having this issue. Doesn’t matter what device it’s playing on the Server just won’t process EAC3 . This issue is getting old and should have been fixed by now. With no way it contact the coders at Plex it falls on deaf ears. So I guess its resolved if the user reencodes to anything other than EAC3 :exploding_head:
