right now, the DVR allows for two options: “New”, and “New and Repeats”
New works as expected. New and Repeats means the DVR will record everything, regardless of if it already exists in the library. This is weird and unuseful.
I’m suggesting that there be three options:
- New
- New and Repeats not in library
- All
All would behave the same as the current “New and Repeats” option.
The new option, “New and Repeats not in library” would record only those episodes that aren’t in the library already. The usecase is to fill in a collection for a give show.
Can you provide an example where the current functionality fails, in your experience? My experience is that “New and Repeat Airings” does not attempt to re-record items already in my DVR library; unless of course they are available in a higher resolution and I have that recording option enabled.
This is top of mind for me for America’s Test Kitchen - I’ve recorded all of season 19, 20, and 21. It continues to record additional copies of these episodes, despite me having current ones that are HD. In addition, it’s recording additional copies of the current season 22.
There’s part of me that wonders if it’s not related to metadata - I do not see this behavior when I’ve had it record old episodes of Star Trek. Who knows…
