Changing Local Agent to pick up more tags in MP4 (MetaX)

Hi all,

 

I've been using MetaX quite a lot whilst my movie collection was in iTunes.  Now I have moved to Plex I'd like to use the metadata contained within the MP4 files.  Let's be honest, as good as TVDB and the others are, they are not perfect by any means.

 

Plex uses some of the Tags but not all.  Covertart, movie description, Collection are ok but it is unable to find Year, Rating, Sort Title to name but a few.

 

Is there any file I can edit to get Plex to use them all? or a way to rename the tags to plex looks at the correct ones

Hi, I think you can manage to achieve what you want by modifying this file "videohelpers.py", for the movies and "audiohelpers.py", for the music.

For me on linux, they are located in :

/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/LocalMedia.bundle/Contents/Code

One warning, any updates my plex will rewrite the local agent.  Highly recommend coping the local media agent retitle it then make your changes.  Also as a nfo agent user sort title cannot be done in metadata.  The rest can be added to the local agent except maybe actor role and picture.

The developer of the local media agent has made some significant changes recently in order to bring in the meta data stored in the iTunes atoms (ie directors, writers, cast, etc). I too tag all my media and rely on local media agent to bring in the majority of the metadata and let thetvdb or themoviedb fill in the rest. I’ve never had any problems with year but rating is not stored in the file. It’s stored in the iTunes library file so plex can’t read that data.

I store rating under 'Comments' metadata.  Then this will pull it in.
