Large iTunes library... don't want to retag everything for plex
Hi,
I asked this a while ago, and was told it was a feature that might be coming in the near future, so I thought I'd check up on how things are going...
I have a large iTunes library of TV shows and Movies (not encrypted). I'd dearly love to use Plex to play them, but the media manager makes a bit of a hash of guessing what they are, as they're still organised for iTunes to know where they are (and I'd like it to stay like that). All the files are mp4s with good metadata in them. Is it yet possible to instruct the media manager to scan data from the mp4 meta data, and take that as the word of god over what it guesses?
The scanners have some support for MP4 tags (TV Shows and Music). This is just for structural stuff such as season/episode. IIRC the Local Media metadata agent also has some support for MP4, but I could be wrong.
If you have a specific file that it’s not working with, please let us know, and make it available for download so we can make it work
i think he means pulling in all metadata written to the mp4 file that itunes, ipods, apple tv’s etc. will all recognize automatically–not just season/episode but description, rating, year, actor/director etc.–all the stuff that a metadata agent would normally provide. If you tag a file with Metax or Iflicks or whatever you can add all those data the way you want and it’s always there with the file. Plex scanner does not read in this data at all and would be very desirable not only because of itunes stuff, but you don’t have to rely on an agent to get it from the internet or worry about adding yourself to the database when it’s already there, or losing the data if you have to reinstall PMS etc.
That's what the "Local Media" agent is for, and you are correct, it doesn't read MP4 data right now, but i'm pretty sure if you provided us with a sample file, we could take care of it in pretty short order.
Is this in hand yet? Have example mp4/m4v/mov files been submitted to get the meta data from them.
I have thousands of files all correctly tagged and stored as meta data in the files themselves and the only thing stopping me from moving to Plex is the pain of having to re tag them all again.
Can the current version of Plex now extract all the meta data from the mp4/m4v/mov thereby avoiding the re-processing effort.
If anyone needs examples I will gladly provide them if you let me know where to put 'em.
From what I have seen the Plex Media Manager does use the mp4 metadata. However I find this particularly annoying since the metadata in my files recorded with eyeTV is generally relatively meaningless compared to the metadata gathered by the scrapers. Is it possible to disable the Media Manager taking mp4 metadata in preference to scrapers?
Same thing here. I have put alot of effort in tagging my music. Most of my m4a are verified manually. Is there a way to configure a proper scanner using basic id tags, forget about online searching ?
If I would need to use online scrappers, I stall can use another music library (thats what I understood). Thanks for the help.
